The back (all areas) must move as a cooperative structure. The muscles must work together correctly to move the vertebrae (bones) in a smooth equal motion. The back flexes forwards and sideways, extends backwards and rotates from top to bottom or bottom to top. Most of life’s daily movements require several of these movements to occur at the same time.

The spine and the surrounding muscles are under constant load. Low back pain is frequently worsened by routine daily activities such as standing (often slightly bent forward – like over a desk); or seated and reaching, bending and twisting. These activities do not need to cause you to suffer from low back pain.

Without proper attention to low back pain, even the mild case, can lead to ever-increasing problems and pain.

Here’s how to seek low back pain relief:

First, help yourself – get active.

Walk, even a little.

This often helps to move muscles and joints in a non-pain increasing way. By increasing the internal temperature of the muscles, they become more flexible.

Second, stretch gently.

Third, pay attention to how you move at work, play, while you are sitting, doing chores and even what position you sleep in.
